Alumni Become Member

IIPSAA enrols its members voluntarily through membership fee (Life Membership Fee Rs. 5,000).  Any contribution given to the IIPSAA is also exempted from Section 80G of the Income Tax Act, vide Certificate No. CIT(E)/80G/1432(2015-16)2016/17 dated 27.01.2017.
The membership fee for current student can be seen below. The membership shall be open to all full-time, part-time and distance education students and trainees/faculty/research staff/visiting faculty/project research staff. The membership consists of Life Member, Student Member and Honorary Member. 

Life Member
Individuals are eligible for life membership if they fulfil the categories mentioned above.   They will be eligible to participate in all the alumni association activities and elections and can be part of the IIPSAA Management Committee.

Student Member
An individual who is enrolled in any of the programme of IIPS is eligible to become a student member by paying prescribed fees, and filling out a registration form. Out of all student alumni, some selected members will work as volunteers. Student alumni have the right to vote and participate in all the activities. Till they are studying at IIPS, they will not be part of the Management Committee. Once they pass out from IIPS, they will become life members.

Honorary Member
IIPS has trained many ESCAP and other international participants for their Certificate and Diploma courses. Some of them are now above 70 years old. Those who studied or worked at IIPS had crossed the age of 70 could become honorary members of IIPSAA. These members are not required to pay any fees. However, they will not be able to participate in the voting or Management Committee but can participate in all other activities. Also, the IIPSAA Management Committee may confer honorary membership on any person who has rendered outstanding service to IIPS or the Alumni Association. Short-term course participants who had paid the registration fee will also be considered for honorary member. Honorary membership is awarded according to criteria, which are reviewed regularly.

How to submit the registration form?

About IIPS Alumni Association (IIPSAA)

Any academic institute can be shaped and reshaped through the assistance of its alumni. Alumni can provide precise insights into the professional requirements of the market, industry, and employers. Therefore, they can permeate the gap between the Institute and the potential employment market. Moreover, they can support the Institute regarding the areas where financial and administrative limitations often obstruct the fulfilment of its vision and mission. A professional body of IIPS-trained population graduates, termed IIPS Alumni Association (IIPSAA), was engendered and registered by faculties and the alumni of the Institute under the Society Registration Act 21, 1860 (Regd. No. 2893/2011/GBBSD) and the Charity Commission Act 1950 (Regd. No. F49222-Mumbai). The IIPS alumni hold distinguished positions in several organisations such as Child Fund, Indian Institute of Health Management Research, International Centre for Research on Women, Population Council, Population Service International, Public Health Foundation of India, Tata Institute of Social Sciences, United Nations Population Fund, United Nations Children’s Fund, World Health Organization, and National Council of Applied Economic Research. In addition, several of IIPS alumni are recruited in different national and international universities and colleges. IIPSAA vigorously organises several activities, including lectures, workshops, and debates for students, encouraging them to connect with eminent personalities who are experienced professionals in various fields related to population sciences.

MISSION
The mission of IIPSAA Office of Alumni Association is to create a lifelong and worldwide community of alumni through increased opportunities for meaningful engagement in order to increase awareness, pride, participation, volunteer involvement, and philanthropic commitment to IIPS.

VISION
To promote a goodwill and sense of pride to both alumni and students. To help and support alumnus develop and spread a philanthropic and entrepreneurial mind-set among students. To advice and conduct activities that shall motivate and upgrade student skill sets.

GOAL
One of the main purposes of alumni associations is to support a network of former graduates who will, in turn, help to raise the profile of the university. Just like most other university student organizations, alumni associations aim to bring together like-minded individuals.

OBJECTIVES
IIPSAA is established and which shall extend to members in every country in the world are:
To promote interaction among the IIPSAA members and between IIPSAA and the International Institute for Population Sciences, Mumbai (Hereinafter referred to as Institute).
To encourage, promote and facilitate education, research, training and other related activities of the discipline of Population Sciences in general and the Institute in particular.
To disseminate and encourage the study of population sciences among the social scientists and researchers belonging to other disciplines.
To encourage fellowship and greater interaction among members of the IIPSAA in general and population scientists in particular in India and abroad
To enable cooperation and render possible assistance to all the social scientists engaged in teaching, training, research, governance, administration and other matters related to population sciences.
To bring solidarity and fellowship among population scientists, social scientists, health professionals and other important stakeholders.
To liaise, communicate and cooperate with other universities, academic institutions, research organizations, donor agencies, Non-Govt. and Govt. organizations etc. in India and abroad for the purpose of achieving any of the objects for which the IIPSAA is established.
To help in establishing educational institutions like departments, schools, colleges, universities, training institutes, etc. to impart knowledge and skills on subjects related to social, population and health sciences.
To organize lectures, seminars, conventions, conferences, workshops, retreats, training programmes and such gatherings for the purpose of achieving any of the objects for which the IIPSAA is established.
To prepare, edit, publish, issue, acquire and circulate books, papers, newsletters, pamphlets, posters, scientific journals, e-journals, periodicals, circulars and other literature having a bearing on achieving any of the objects for which the IIPSAA is established.
To apply to Government, public bodies like urban, local, municipal, district and other bodies, corporations, associations, companies or other persons/ individuals to obtain and accept grants,money, equipment, land, buildings, donations, gifts, subscriptions and other assistance with a view to promote and further the objects of the IIPSAA.
To promote professional development of IIPSAA members and assist young/population /health professionals in career planning and development
To impart education and knowledge about latest Information Technology. To provide specialized training to the youth in various aspects of computer technology and to establish and run computer institutions for the same. Also to impart vocational training.

We intend to support students in several ways:

Financial support for attending conferences (registration or visa fees)
Bursary for fees
Distinguished Alumnus Award

1. Financial support to scholars for attending the conferences / workshop

IIPSAA Conference Fund aims to support alumni of IIPSAA to attend an international academic conference to disseminate their research findings. This competitive fund can be made available for researchers to present oral presentations at an international conference in or outside India.

Eligibility

  • Applicants who do not have access to a conference budget through an existing studentship or sponsor arrangement
  • Applicants who have not yet presented at an international conference
  • Applicants who can demonstrate clearly that conference attendance benefit their career
  • Applications where there is strong academic support regarding the quality of the presentation/data or the conference’s standing in the discipline
  • Applicants who have not received financial support from IIPSAA earlier

Financial Support 

  • Actual or maximum up to Rs 15,000 whichever is lesser and it includes conference registration fees and visa application costs (conference purposes only).
  • It may be noted that the funding is available on a competitive basis with limited budget.

How to apply: Applicant must submit the following:  

  • Complete paper
  • Invitation letter from the conference secretariat
  • Information about registration/visa fees
  • A declaration that the applicant has not attended any international conference to date
  • A declaration that the applicant will not claim registration/visa fees from other funding agencies
  • CV giving details about the age
  • A letter/email of support from the supervisor/of self-declaration in case of self-employed or out of educational system candidates that outlines the standing of the conference 
  • The relevance to the professional.

Assessment process and reimbursement
The subcommittee consisting of three members preferably from IIPS will be formulated from the IIPSAA Management Committee for this purpose.  Applications will be screened and examine the following criteria:

  • First time attending conference
  • Age of the person is below 50 years 
  • Quality of paper and relevance of the conference

A letter of approval will be issued to the applicant if he/she fulfils the criteria. After the conference, reimbursement will be made on the production of bills of registration or visa fee.

2. Support to Master Students for Payment of Fees

IIPSAA supports one/two young master students to continue the education without any hardship in the payment of admission fees.

Eligibility

  • Applicants who do not have parents or any earning member in the family
  • Applicants who are not getting a scholarship for the payment of mess bills 
  • If there is more than applicant, preference will be given to those who have a good academic record

Financial Support: Actual or maximum up to Rs. 20,000 per annum/onetime

  • How to apply: Applicant must submit:  
  • Completed application with age may be submitted at the beginning of the course with the signature of the Academic Section about his/her admission
  • Declaration of income information 
  • Grade/Marks sheet of last qualifying exam
  • Receipt of admission fees

Assessment process

3. Distinguished Alumnus Award

Currently, IIPSAA doesn’t honor any such award to the alumni.
