Preamble Objective Relevant Resources and Documents Archive Annual Return
An Internal Committee (IC) is a mandatory institutional body and a statutory body constituted under the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 (POSH Act). Its legal role extends beyond receiving complaints. It is responsible for ensuring compliance with the Act and providing a fair, impartial, and time-bound mechanism for redressal. Complaints regarding sexual harassment may be submitted to iccommittee@iipsindia.ac.in
Committee Structure and Composition
- Presiding Officer: A senior-level female employee.
- Internal Members: At least two employees with legal knowledge or social work, or commitment to women's causes.
- External Member: At least one independent expert from an NGO or legal background or commitment to women's causes familiar with sexual harassment issues.
- Gender Ratio: At least 50% of the total members must be women.
- Tenure: Members hold office for a maximum term of 3 years.
Core Responsibilities and Powers
- Inquiry Process: Receive written complaints, summon witnesses, and collect evidence impartially.
- Confidentiality: Protect the identity of the complainant, respondent, and witnesses throughout the proceedings.
- Actionable Recommendations: Submit inquiry findings and suggest disciplinary or corrective actions directly to the employer.

The SHe-Box (Sexual Harassment electronic Box) portal is a centralized online complaint management system developed by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India, to facilitate the registration and monitoring of complaints relating to sexual harassment at the workplace under the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013.
