Abstract Content (not more than 300 word, should include: Introduction, Objective, Methodology, critical findings & Conclusion):
As per the Census 2011, nearly 253 million adolescents belong from the age group of 10-19 years respectively, which is the significant young population of the country encompassing 1/5 of total population of India. Majority of Adolescent population in India resides in rural pockets which comprise 25, 32, 35,661 (21.7%) in rural areas and 7, 25, 28,695 (19.2%) in Urban context. Rural adolescent population is higher compared to urban adolescent population. Adolescent development is one of the crucial phases in the life cycle and needs to be addressed on priority basis by convergence of health and wellbeing programmes to lead holistic development of the adolescents. Keeping this in mind, the government has taken initiative and launched Rashtriya Kishor Swasthya Karyakram (RKSK) to reach out 253 million adolescents with the aim of addressing the health and developmental issues of the adolescent population especially in rural areas. The main aim of these programs is to support adolescents in a holistic manner by integration of health education, life skill development and proper access of health care service to adolescents in rural areas. The rural adolescent population faces many obstacles and issues in terms of getting services under various programmes and schemes resulting in them remaining unaware about potential benefits of programs. The execution and outcomes of adolescent development programs like Rashtriya Kishor Swasthya Karyakram (RKSK) in rural areas are still not measurable. This program needs a more comprehensive approach and transformative efforts through local self-government to lead holistic development of adolescents in rural areas. The present paper is based on secondary source of information to examine the Rashtriya Kishor Swasthya Karyakram (RKSK) in rural area and reviews the existing implementation system of rural areas to ensure the effective implementation of Rashtriya Kishor Swasthya Karyakram (RKSK).
