R4D India: Inclusive Social Protection for Chronic Health Problems is a collaborative research initiative as a part of the Swiss Programme for Research on Global Issues for Development (r4d) by the University of Lausanne, Switzerland and of International Institute for Population Sciences (IIPS) Mumbai, India. The project is funded by Swiss Agency for Development and Global Cooperation (SDC) and the SWISS National Science Foundation (SNSF), bearing Grant Number: 400640_160374. The study proposed to analyze data from the Longitudinal Aging Study (LASI), 2017-18 and health surveys of National Sample Survey (NSS) in India. The principal investigators of this project are Dr. Jürgen Maurer, Dr. Owen A O'Donnell, Dr. Sanjay K Mohanty and Dr. Sarang Pedgaonkar. The main objective of this project is to bring out a number of scientific papers in high impact peer reviewed journals on chronic diseases. The primary focus of research is on social, economic and epidemiological aspects of chronic disease. The broad area that will be covered are
- Diagnosis, treatment and control of chronic diseases with focus on hypertension and diabetes
- Socio-economic inequalities in access and use of health care
- Disability and functional impairment
- Health financing
- Poverty and NCDs.
